The Central Subway Construction projects adds 1.7 miles underground to the existing San Francisco Municipal Transit Agency’s Light Rail System. The project includes construction of 3 underground stations, 1 surface station, surface tracks, underground trackwork, switches, controls and all systems. Smith Emery is currently performing all contract-required Special Inspections and Materials Testing on the stations, tracks and systems. Smith-Emery also performed geotechnical investigations and subsurface exploration at the locations of proposed slurry walls for the underground Moscone/Yerba Buena Station. Over the course of this large and complicated project our inspection duties have included, but were not limited to, shoring and excavation support, reinforced concrete, post tensioned concrete, mass concrete, standard shotcrete, tunnel lining arched shotcrete, structural steel and welding, rail welding, backfill compaction, and roadway grading and resurfacing.
