Seismic Evaluation

    Smith-Emery Company has inspected over 200 structural steel buildings since the Northridge earthquake. These inspections often revealed damage to the structural steel frames. Many times the seismic damage was not visible to the naked eye and was located only after special Ultrasonic inspection procedures were performed. We have developed these special procedures because normal ultrasonic testing procedures are not always adequate for finding these hidden defects.

    Smith-Emery's work will be done in a manner that will satisfy all requirements of the City of Los Angeles and other applicable codes and regulations. Our personnel are certified per ASNT-TC-1A Standards.

    Smith-Emery Company has formed a number of qualified 2-man inspection teams to perform this special steel inspection. Each crew utilizes a detailed Ultrasonic Testing procedure specially written for this work and we complete a report which is sufficient in detail to be utilized by the Structural Engineer in accessing damage and in detailing repair procedures. Our reporting and documentation procedures have become the industry standard and are often utilized by contractors in cost estimating.
